In the lead-up to the 300th anniversary ofJoseph Haydn's birth in 2032, the Joseph Haydn Foundation in Basel isorganising, producing and financing the performance and recording of all 107 ofthe composer's symphonies by Il Giardino Armonico and Basel Chamber Orchestraunder the artistic direction of Giovanni Antonini, one of the most highly-respectedspecialists in baroque, early classical and classical music, with its projectHaydn2032.
Between the autumn of 2014 and 2032, all ofHaydn's symphonies are to be performed and recorded in the course of nineteenconcert seasons, with two projects per year.
Basel, Zurichund Eisenstadt have already signed up to host the project. In Berlin,Radialsystem V – one of the most innovative and experimental venues in Germany – is toenter into a long-term partnership with the project. The French group 'outheremusic' is the cooperation partner on the recording side. And to accompany theproject, the Joseph Haydn Foundation will be publishing a lavish, limitededition collector's book, complete with text and photographs by contemporaryartists. The renowned agency Magnum Photos will supply a team of photographersto accompany the project and contribute a series of images for each subjectarea.

For this second volume in the Haydn 2032 project, the complete recording of his symphonies, Giovanni Antonini has chosen to put forward the Symphony Der Philosoph. He associates with it a symphony by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, eldest son of the Kantor of Leipzig, who is generally considered the most gifted of his sons. Different reasons brought these two great composers the originality and sometimes eccentricity that characterize their works, one suffering from the fame of his father, the other from his own genius. Whereas Haydn’s symphonies differentiate themselves by form, orchestration and keys, W. F. Bach’s begins in the style of a Baroque overture, gradually turning into a tempestuous piece and perhaps already reflecting the transition from a ‘Golden Age’ to the more tormented world that will follow the Age of Enlightenment.

“海顿2032计划”是为了纪念海顿在2032年的诞辰三百周年，而由在瑞士巴塞尔的“约瑟夫·海顿基金会”发起的一项录音计划。目标是在2032年前，将海顿的全部107首交响曲全部录制完成。这项录音计划包含了两支乐团：意大利的和谐花园古乐团和瑞士的巴塞尔室内乐团担纲，指挥就只有乔瓦尼·安托尼尼。这项计划由2014年开始，在19个乐季中完成所有录制任务，每一个乐季演出和录制当中的一个小计划。
