迪莉亚·墨菲（Delia Murphy，1902-1971）所演唱的由约翰·弗兰西斯·沃勒（John Francis Waller）创作的歌曲《飞转的轮子》（The Spinning Wheel），以轻妙的爱尔兰乡音与盖尔古腔，辅以清澈的竖琴伴奏，很快成为本世纪上半叶爱尔兰音乐的代表作。墨菲的作品不单限于爱尔兰民乐改编，通过一系列歌曲如《如果我是只黑鸟》（If I Were a Blackbird）、《在厨房求爱》（Courtin' In the Kitchen）、《再见麦克，再见派特》（Goodbye Mike and Goodbye Pat）、《诺拉·克莱那》（Nora Creina）等，墨菲在民族音乐中也巧妙溶入了美国百老汇与爵士乐音乐的元素。二战后墨菲还进行了一些歌曲翻译工作，将凯尔特语转译成意大利语，进而将优秀的爱尔兰民歌推向整个欧洲。

Mellow the moonlight to shine is beginning,
Close by the window young Eileen is spinning;
Then toward the fire, blind grandmother sitting,
Is crooning and mourning and drowsily knitting.
"Eileen, the curragh, I hear someone tapping!",
"'Tis the ivy, dear mother, against the glass flapping".
"Eileen, it surely is somebody sighing!",
"'Tis the sound, mother dear, of the Autumn winds dying".
Merrily, merrily, noiselessly whirring,
Swings the wheel, spins the wheel, while the foot's stirring.
Spritely and brightly and airily ringing
Trills the sweet voice of the young maiden singing.
There's a form at the casement, the form of her true love,
And he whispers with face bent, "I'm waiting for you love!
Get up on the stool, through the lattice step lightly,
We'll rove in the grove while the moon's shining brightly!".
The maid shakes her head, on her lips lays her fingers,
Steals up from the seat, longs to go and yet lingers;
A frightened glance turns on a drowsy grandmother,
Puts one foot on the stool, spins the wheel with other.
Lazily, easily, swings now the wheel round,
Slowly and lowly is heard now the reel sound.
Noiseless and light to the lattice above her
The maid creeps, then leaps to the arms of her lover!
Slower and slower and slower the wheel swings,
Lower and lower and lower the reel rings;
Ere the reel and the wheel stopped their ringing and moving,
Through the grove the young lovers by moonlight are roving.
