‘The first book of The Enchanted Garden was composed in 1992; the five preludes in that cycle were musical responses to dreams that I had and had eventually written about. The second book, written nearly seventeen years later in 2009, includes seven preludes; experiences and memories both recent and historical are the sources here and the origins of the titles. The fine line between dream and memory, between reality and fantasy has always intrigued me. The ancient Greeks believed that the “real” world was the unseen world.’ — Richard Danielpour

Award-winning composer Richard Danielpour, one of the most gifted and sought-after composers of his generation, has attracted an impressive array of champions; his commissioners include such celebrated artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Jessye Norman, Dawn Upshaw, Emanuel Ax, Fredericka von Stade, Thomas Hampson, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Gil Shaham, Sarah Chang, Philippe Entremont, the Guarneri and Emerson String Quartets, the New York City and Pacific Northwest Ballets, the New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia, the Vienna Chamber and the Stuttgart Radio orchestras, the San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and National symphonies, Orchestre National de France, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and many more. With Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison he created Margaret Garner, his first opera, which had a second production at New York City Opera. He has received the American Academy Charles Ives Fellowship, a Guggenheim Award, Bearns Prize from Columbia University, and numerous grants and residencies. A devoted mentor and educator who has had a significant impact on the younger generation of composers, he is on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music and Curtis Institute.


理查德·丹尼波尔(Richard Danielpour 1956—)出生在纽约市一个极具艺术气息的伊朗犹太家庭，是20世纪美国现代音乐潮流中的杰出作曲家之一，其作品内容广泛并且形式多样，创作风格源于欧洲古典传统，同时也结合了美国爵士、摇滚、流行的音乐元素，形成了独具一格的新浪漫主义美国之声。他的作品通过细腻的情感表达、出色的配器、惊人的内在凝聚力，强劲的节奏感向世人展现出气势恢弘的音乐形象。

丹尼波尔写过两套相对非常有名的钢琴曲集《魔幻花园》“Enchanted Garden”，第一套是1992年创作的，第二套是2009年，每首都有小标题。
